Peggy Kauffman Morrell

Peggy Kauffman Morrell, a free spirit whose spirit is now free, passed away Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Miami after a two-year battle with pancreatic cancer.

Weighing 3-1/2 lbs at birth, she was born fighting for her life Nov. 3, 1954, in Norfolk Va., to Charles and Helen Dillard Kauffman. She attended Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach, during which she was a member of the National Thespian Society acting in many school plays.

After graduation she continued her love of theater with the Virginia Beach Little Theater acting in many plays, her favorites being "Annie Get Your Gun" and "You Can't Take It With You." She spent many weekends assisting her dear friend, Henry "The Bull" Del Toro, at his deejay venues sharing his love of music and people.

She began working for Practical Care Nursing Registry while in high school and continued as the company evolved into Gentiva Health Care in Virginia Beach. Her dream was to live in Florida. She brought that dream to life in January 2007, moving to Cape Coral and continuing her work for Gentiva in Fort Myers. She loved entertaining and traveling with her best friend, her husband, Bob Morrell. She enjoyed being involved with the "Bocanuts" and the Naples Parrot Head Club.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Robert "Bob" Morrell of Cape Coral; step-daughter, Carolyn Morrell; stepson, David (Amy) Morrell, with Peggy's granddaughter Emma; her brother, Carl "Dennis" Kauffman; and sister, Suzi (Steve) Stevens; nieces, Donna (Neil) Fernandez and Mary (Mark) Macdonald; and cousin, Carol (Steve) Simon. Her constant companion was her beloved Papillon dog, Calypso.

Mrs. Morrell was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Helen Dillard Kauffman; grandparents, Ernest and Helen Kauffman and James and Elizabeth Dillard.

The family wishes to extend special thanks for the help and friendships of Pam Blackburn, Tom Whiteside, Marny and Steve Hann and Romila and Ernie Spina.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 2, at Coral Ridge Funeral Home, 1630 Pine Island Road, Cape Coral.

A Celebration of Peggy's life will be at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 4, at McGregor Baptist Church, 3750 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers.
