Charles Ellis Bechtel Jr., 72, of Cape Coral died Wednesday, July 25, 2012. He was born Jan. 15, 1940, in Roaring Spring, Pa., to Charles Ellis Bechtel Sr. and Flora Furry Bechtel. He graduated from Morrison's Cove High School and attended Penn State University. He was self-employed as a dairy farmer and later worked as a carpenter for the County of Blair (Pa.).
He was a member of the Lions Club and Blair County Master Gardeners. He was an active member of the Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren and the Middle PA District Disaster Response Team. Following his move to Florida in 1997, he attended the First Congregational Church of Cape Coral.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Bowser; half-brother C.Carl Bechtel; and half-sisters, Erdene Smith and Belva Stiffler; and infant grandchildren, Rebekah and Jacob Hulvey.
He is survived by wife, Dorie Bechtel; daughters, Julie Bechtel of Cape Coral, Betsy Bechtel Hulvey (Glenn) of Harrisonburg, Va.; and son, Eric Bechtel of Cape Coral; and grandson, Matthew Hulvey; sisters, Ann Stahl and Lou Lingenfelter; and half-sister, Nita Somerville.
Memorials services will be held Saturday, July 28, at 2 p.m., at First Congregational Church, 312 Santa Barbara Blvd., Cape Coral, and Saturday, Aug. 4, at 11 a.m., at Hollidaysburg Church of the Brethren, 1208 Penn St., Hollidaysburg, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either church.
