Table 209 opens downtown, offers fine dining

They call it "art on a plate." when chef James King makes a menu item at the new Table 209 in Cape Coral.

The new downtown restaurant opened Friday, June 15, and will feature fine dining - for dinner, Sunday Brunch and a German Night, every Monday.

The owner is restauranteur Ines Josupeit, who found great success in Punta Gorda with the same formula, but wanted to own a place here in the Cape, which she calls home.

Table 209 chef James King and owner Ines Josupeit just opened the new Cape Coral restaurant this past Friday.

She is German, and moved to Cape Coral 10 years ago.

"I'm from East Germany, and will be in Florida 14 years on the Fourth of July," she said. "We came and everyone made fireworks for us."

She said her menu features contemporary, eclectic and German cuisine year round, now at both locations.

"I went to Punta Gorda, but I love my home of Cape Coral, and always wanted to come back here to open a restaurant," she said. "I looked for a long time for the right location, it's a nice looking, freestanding building, which is always good."

Her area on Vincennes can be tough to find a place to park.

"So we have valet parking for free on weekends for now, maybe during season all nights."

She credits her chef, James King, for what she says is great food and great presentation.

"We've got voters choice awards in Punta Gorda for Best Brunch 2010 and 2011, and Best Restaurant of the Year for 2010. He's an award-winning chef that worked in Naples, comes from San Francisco area, where he got his knowledge from and he worked with me in Punta Gorda since I opened in 2010," she said. "Personally we are friends for a long time and he is an awesome chef, the best I've ever had, and I've been in the restaurant business 32 years. He knows how things go together."

On the brunch menu, look for items from lemon ricotta pancakes and a smoked salmon omelet to eggs Benedicts - actually, five different types of eggs Benedict.

"We have from traditional to filet Benedict," she said. "Our chef does his own hollandaise sauce. It's very good."

For dinner they concentrate on seafood and steaks, with a little pasta.

There's Scottish salmon, sea scallops, roast duck and rack of lamb. The German menu has the traditional cultural favorites.

The restaurant is also a gallery of sorts. She features artwork from local painters, and sells the work there. She is still setting up her art displays.

Prices are fine dining level, but less expensive than other fine dining restaurants, Josupeit said.

"We also have an offer on restaurant.com where people can get coupons there."

Wine is important to her.

"We have 40 wines right now, in season we will double that," she said.

Hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, from 5 to 10 p.m. Table 209 is closed Wednesdays, and Sunday hours are both 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for brunch, and 5 to 9 p.m. for dinner.
