To the editor:
This past Sunday and Monday, days to give thanks for those that died for our country, were politicized. It was sad. These are very special days for all Americans, especially those veterans that had friends die in their arms.
There were two beautiful ceremonies to honor our men and women that gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country, their lives.
Sunday, Chauncey Goss, who is running for Congress, came to Centennial Park in Fort Myers with his staff members. All of them were wearing T-shirts advertising their campaign. It was not appropriate. It was unacceptable.
To my utter astonishment, Chauncey Goss was invited as a speaker for a ceremony at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Fort Myers on Monday. This want-to-be politician then gave a political speech about private investment and spending! He even talked about how few people are registered to vote in Lee County. Again, this was unacceptable.
Memorial Day is not a day for politicians or political speeches. Chauncey Goss should take his self-promoting T-shirts off and understand that Memorial Day is a day to remember the men and women who died while serving in our Armed Forces.
