The Caloosahatchee Forestry Center is conducting a prescribed burn today, Saturday, May 19, on Pine Island south of Berkshire Road.
The site of the burn is less than 20 acres on a privately managed preserve
Prescribed burns reduce the density of vegetation and the risks associated with catastrophic wildfire, officials said in a prepared statement.
Regular prescribed burns help ensure safety, promote healthy forests and enhance wildlife habitat.
