To the editor:
Our tailgate was stolen at Coral Pointe Mall on Thursday around 3:45 p.m.
We went to Auto Zone and explained what happened. While we purchased a net for the tailgate, he said that people are stealing for scrap metal because they can get over $1 a pound.
No one saw anything, but we were parked visible to traffic light cameras and McDonalds.
The Police Department admits this has been going on and going on for a while. Something should be done in the scrap metal business. When they see something come in like a tailgate, they should be suspicious and maybe call the Police Department instead of giving money to these people. It's not right.
And people should be made aware they're stealing tailgates and be more cautious. It's very easy to remove if left unlocked. All they have to do is remove two pins and it's gone.
