The Chamber of Commerce of Cape Coral will hold a business expo at BJ's Wholesale Club on Pine Island Road featuring nearly 50 Cape businesses today.

The Saturday expo is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

"I think it is a great way for the business community to expose themselves to consumers," said Mike Quaintance, chamber president.

There will be a wide range of businesses taking part.

"Businesses represented there will be everything from insurance companies to assistant living facilities," he said.

They will be set up out in the front parking lot.

"There's going to be give ways, some food and refreshments and information on the businesses."

The event coincides with the chamber's current membership drive, which kicked off Wednesday at the organization's headquarters.

The drive featured Cape Coral business leaders' own version of the rock band KISS, complete with KISS signature looks.

"We came up with the theme 'The Cape Chamber Rocks' -each sales team (nine total) is a different band," said 2012 Membership Drive Chairperson Donna Meola. "We decided it would be fun, including our band KISS. We kept it super simple, and believe it's simple to get a new member just by asking everyone you do business with."

Cape KISS members are chairperson Meola ("The Starchild") of Kirkwood Electric, and her membership drive co-chair Cheryl "The Catman" Komnick of Caloosa Tent and Party Rental

The band also included chamber staff liaison Amanda "The Spaceman" Brunson and Dominic "The Demon" Soricelli of the Hampton Inn and Suites.

The drive continues through Feb. 3.

"Our goal is to get 100 new members," Meola said.

The drive is already a success.

"As of Friday morning by 10:30 a.m., we already have 14 new members for the day," said Quaintance.

"The band rocked," he added about the kick off. "Volunteers danced in the aisles, and band members danced with them."

Event sponsors for the Business Expo are BJ's Wholesale Club and FOX TV.

BJ's Wholesale Club is at 1929 Pine Island Rd. N.E. in Cape Coral.

The mission of the Chamber of Commerce of Cape Coral is to promote and serve business and community.

The Chamber Welcome Center is at 2051 Cape Coral Parkway E.
