February programs set at Cape Coral-Lee County Library

Next month's roster of activities at Cape Coral-Lee County Public Library offers topics for all ages. The following activities are free to the public:

ADULTS

Fitness On the Go

Feb. 1 11

Available during normal library operating hours: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday: 9 a.m. 8 p.m.; Thursday: 9 a.m. 6 p.m.; Friday, Saturday: 9 a.m. 5 p.m.

"Fitness on the Go" is a multigenerational initiative to help you get healthy and discover our library resources. Did you make a New Year's resolution to get fit? The library is here to help! Pick up a "Fitness Log" and fill in 20 spots (10 fitness activities + 10 library resources) by February 11 to be entered into a prize drawing.

Craft Corner: Knitting and Crocheting

3:30 p.m. Mondays, Feb. 6, 13, 20, 27

Bring your ideas to light and make a handmade treasure. Materials will be provided for newcomers, or bring your own project to work on. Sponsored by Friends of the Cape Coral Public Library. Registration is requested.

English Caf

10 a.m. Fridays, Feb. 3, 10, 17, 24

6 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 7, 14, 21, 28

Practice your English with English Cafe, a free, conversation session for adult ESOL and ESL students. Each 90-minute session provides adult learners an opportunity to practice speaking English with native speakers. Participants may start at any time. Advanced registration is not necessary.

Chess Anyone?

5:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Feb. 7, 14, 21, 28

Rise to the chess challenge and join the fun. Everyone is welcome. Bring a personal chess set, if preferred.

Book Discussion: Tatiana de Rosnay's "Sarah's Key"

2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8

Paris, July 1942: Sarah, a ten-year old girl is brutally arrested with her family by the French Police in the Vel d'Hiv roundup, but not before she locks her younger brother in a cupboard in the family's apartment, thinking she will be back in a few hours.

Sugar Blues??

1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10

Got the Sugar Blues? Annette Brandes, a local Health Coach, will lecture on how to beat sugar cravings without deprivation. Registration is required.

"Chocolat" A Valentine's Day Book Discussion

12 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14

Join us for a Valentine's Day treat as we sample chocolates and discuss "Chocolat" by Joanne Harris.

In tiny Lansquenet, where nothing much has changed in a hundred years, beautiful newcomer Vianne Rocher and her exquisite chocolate shop arrive and instantly play havoc with Lenten vows. Sponsored by the Friends of the Cape Coral Public Library. Registration is required.

The Art of Photographic Composition

2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24

Award-winning Photojournalist Stephen Hayford will discuss the art of photographic composition including the rule of thirds, natural framing and repetition of form. Registration is required.

Bagels, Books & Banter

9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28

Join other book lovers and come prepared to talk about a favorite book that you've read recently. Relax with coffee and refreshments.

FAMILY

Family Storytime

10:15 a.m. Wednesdays, Feb. 1, 8, 15

9:30 a.m. Thursdays, Feb. 2, 9, 16

This program is for the whole family and lasts about 30 minutes. Registration is required.

Baby-Parent Rhyme Time

10:15 a.m. Thursdays, Feb. 2, 9, 16

Be prepared to tickle, jump and fly with your baby! These rhymes and songs are for infants, up to 24 months, accompanied by an adult. This 20-minute program is filled with songs designed to introduce rhyming and movement to infants. Registration is required.

Cartooning with Doug Macgregor!

6 p.m. Tuesday, February 21

Local cartoonist Doug MacGregor will help you with easy cartoon basics. You will learn how to draw cartoon faces while bringing your own cartoon characters to life. Just bring your imagination and your fun desire to draw. Sponsored by the Friends of the Cape Coral Public Library. Registration is required.

Preschool Storytime

11 a.m. Thursdays, Feb. 2, 9, 16

Preschoolers (ages 3 to 5) attend this storytime independently while parents or caregivers wait nearby in the library building. This storytime includes activities that require more participation and a longer attention span. Each preschool storytime lasts about 30 minutes. Registration is required.

Kids Read Down Fines

3:30 4:30 p.m. Thursdays, Feb. 2, 16

6 - 7 p.m. Mondays, Feb. 6, 20

Children and teens can earn a $2 coupon for every 15 minutes of reading during the allotted time in the designated area of the library. For ages 18 and younger. Coupons may be applied to cards issued to patrons age 18 and under only. Please bring your library card.

Play with Us

Join Gulf Coast Symphony members for a mini-concert and enjoy some hands-on time with the instruments. What a treat! Registration is required.
