US 27 reopens as smoke from fire clears

June 9, 2014
Associated Press

MIAMI (AP) — U.S. 27 is now open between Alligator Alley and Southern Boulevard in Palm Beach County.

The road was closed overnight due to smoky conditions from a brush fire in the Everglades. The Florida Highway Patrol says the road reopened Monday morning.

Smoky conditions were reported throughout South Florida on Monday morning, all the way east to Biscayne Bay.

Authorities say some 2,500 acres have burned in western Broward County. They believe a lightning strike may have sparked the fire.

The FHP will continue to monitor conditions.
