JACKSONVILLE (AP) - Officials say a diving student from California jumped to his death off a bridge that crosses the Trout River.

Divers from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office recovered the body of 23-year-old Nathaniel Borden on Saturday morning. They say he had been drinking with friends before doing a back-flip from a spot on the bridge about 32 feet above the river.

Sheriff's spokesman T.K. Waters says it wasn't clear whether Borden's friends were on the bridge when he jumped. But about six friends were searching for his body when authorities arrived at the scene.

Borden attended a commercial diving academy located near the bridge.
