Nygaard is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James and Stephanie Nygaard of Fort Myers and the brother of decorated combat veteran, USMC Sgt. Michael Nygaard.

Nygaard successfully completed four years of intensive academic, physical, and professional training, resulting in a bachelor of science degree with a major in aerospace engineering and concentration in aeronautical engineering. The mission of the United States Naval Academy is to develop midshipmen morally, mentally and physically for the privilege of serving as leaders of Sailors and Marines who have volunteered to serve our country.

Considered one of the top educational institutions in the country, the U.S. Naval Academy was founded in 1845 and has graduated more than 77,000 men and women as Naval and Marine Corps Officers. Its graduates include one president, 22 members of Congress, three governors, 27 chiefs of Naval Operations, nine commandants of the Marine Corps, 73 Medal of Honor recipients, two Nobel Prize awardees and 52 astronauts. The Brigade of Midshipmen is comprised of more than 4,000 students from every state in the union.

Following graduation, will be assigned to the USMC Base located in Quantico, Va. Since its inception in 1912, the base has been the "frontline of innovation." Marine concepts, doctrine, training and equipment for the future are initiated aboard the base. Quantico also serves as the focal point for professional military education.

Upon completion of USMC training in Quantico, Nygaard will be assigned to the Naval Air Station located in Pensacola, Fla., where he will begin his Marine aviator career.

Nygaard was raised in Cape Coral, where he was raised by loving and dedicated parents who are devoted public servants. He is a 2005 graduate of Mariner High School, Cape Coral.
