VIERA (AP) - A central Florida woman convicted of murdering a housekeeper she suspected of stealing from her has been sentenced to death.
Following a jury's unanimous recommendation, a Brevard County judge sentenced 45-year-old Margaret Allen on Thursday. She was convicted in September of first-degree murder. She becomes the third woman on Florida's death row.
Prosecutors say Allen was upset about a missing purse containing about $2,000 in 2005 and suspected housekeeper 38-year-old Wenda Wright of taking it. Witnesses testified that Allen beat up Wright and tortured her with a belt around her neck and then buried her with the help of James Martin and her nephew Quinton Allen.
Martin and Quinton Allen pleaded guilty in the case and testified against Margaret Allen.
