NAPLES (AP) - A Southwest Florida man who was injured during a crash with a Collier County deputy last week has died.
The Florida Highway Patrol reports that 21-year-old Andre Rakes died Sunday from injuries sustained during the Thursday night crash.
FHP reports that the deputy was responding to a call in Golden Gate with his lights and sirens activated. Rakes was driving his car into an intersection as the deputy approached. The deputy swerved and braked, but his patrol car hit the side of Rakes' car.
Rakes was airlifted to a Fort Myers hospital in critical condition and later died.
