TALLAHASSEE (AP) - Congressman Connie Mack IV will announce whether he plans to try to follow his father's footsteps into the U.S. Senate.
Mack will make his announcement on the old Lee County courthouse steps at 10 a.m. Friday in Fort Myers.
Indications are that he will seek the Republican nomination to challenge Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson, who won the seat held by Mack's father, Connie Mack III. The elder Mack retired from the Senate in 2001.
Congressman Mack's political website features a video attacking Nelson for his ties to Obama and criticizing him for being liberal.
Senate President Mike Haridopolos is also seeking the nomination and former state Rep. Adam Hasner has formed a Senate exploratory committee.
