DAYTONA BEACH (AP) - Two central Florida cousins face multiple charges after investigators say they searched online obituaries for potential robbery victims.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement said Tuesday that 35-year-old Dwayne Whittenton and 36-year-old Jason Whittenton are behind a burglary ring that concentrated on 11 central Florida counties.
Investigators say they stole more than $500,000 in cash, jewelry and other items from 28 homes between March and October 2010.
They were arrested in October when a Citrus County Sheriff's deputy stopped them for speeding and found a pillowcase filled with coins and jewelry. While they were charged with grand theft and burglary, only Jason Whittenton was held on a violation of probation charge.
Dewayne Whittenton was arrested Saturday after law enforcement agencies concluded an investigation of the burglary spree.
