VIERA (AP) - The class of 1970 may likely be Merritt Island High School's most generous class.
On Tuesday the class of 485 students donated at least $3.1 million to the Brevard Schools Foundation. The donation was largely made possible because of a single donor who asked to remain anonymous.
Foundation officials say it is the group's largest donation in its 24-year history.
Officials say $1 million is earmarked for sports facility improvements at Merritt Island High. Another $2 million will benefit Brevard County students who participate in a dropout prevention program and $100,000 will go to the Merritt Island Band, which performed at group's 40-year reunion.
Class members also pledged an additional $2 million a year for the Take Stock in Children program for the next four years.
