DAYTONA BEACH (AP) - A jury has recommended the death penalty for a central Florida man convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend.
A Volusia County jury voted 7-5 Wednesday that 28-year-old William Gregory should die. He was found guilty earlier this month of first-degree murder in the deaths of 17-year-old Skyler Meekins and 22-year-old Daniel Dyer. A judge will sentence Gregory in April.
Authorities say Meekins and Dyer were fatally shot at a Flagler Beach home in August 2007. Analysts reported finding Gregory's fingerprints on a shotgun that had been kept at the home and used for the murder.
A defense attorney said experts couldn't determine when Gregory left the fingerprints. Gregory had lived at the home with Meekins until her grandmother kicked him out.
