Air Force Staff Sgt. Edward J. Burlison II participated in the Air Force Global Strike Command's Global Strike Challenge Security Forces competition at Barksdale Air Force Base, Bossier City, La. The competition involves the world's premier bomber, intercontinental ballistic missile and security forces, where more than 400 servicemembers assigned to wings of the Air Force Global Strike Command, Air Combat Command, Air Force Reserve Command, and the Air National Guard participate in the competition.
During the event, security forces teams competed for the Charlie Fire Trophy; the bomb wings competed for the Fairchild Trophy, and the missile wings competed for the Blanchard Trophy. Trophies were also awarded to the best teams in bomber operations, bomber maintenance, missile operations, and missile maintenance competition.
The competition recognized outstanding Air Force Global Strike Command members and teams, while improving their combat capabilities. Team members participated in innovative thinking, teamwork, and esprit de corps situations that are essential to the success of the command's mission.
Burlison is a missile facility maintenance team instructor assigned to the 91st Missile Wing at Minot Air Force Base, N.D. The staff sergeant has served in the military for six years.
He is the son of Edward and Charlene Burlison of Port Charlotte, and grandson of Mansel Richard and Beverly Cunningham of Punta Gorda.
Burlison II graduated in 2003 from Port Charlotte High School, and received an associate degree in 2010 from Community College of the Air Force
