Army National Guard Pvt. Justin L. Middleton graduated from the National Guard Patriot Academy at the Muscastatuck Urban Training Center in Butlerville, Ind.
The Patriot Academy is a pilot program of the National Guard Bureau that gives qualified high school dropouts the opportunity to join the National Guard, earn their high school diploma, and give back to the community.
The three-to-nine month resident program covers three main areas, which includes academics, military training, and community service. Students rehearse military tactics, critical battlefield survival skills, conduct drill and ceremony, and participate in field training exercises. Soldiers are placed in numerous leadership positions to plan and lead their peers and execute training missions.

The academy's curriculum and resources provide a robust educational program for qualifying enlistees to earn an accredited Indiana high school diploma and post secondary credits while developing their life and employment skills, military proficiency, discipline, and ability to better meet civilian and military challenges.
Middleton is son of Howard Middleton of Fort Myers, the grandson of Judith Middleton of Greenwood, Del.
