Thanks due to those who have made BOOM! possible

December 5, 2009
Cape Coral Daily Breeze

Fears that Cape Coral's Independence Day celebration Red White & BOOM! was a bust were, in fact, premature.

The RE/MAX Realty Team stepped forward this week and offered the funds necessary to keep Lee County's largest July 4th festival on course for 2010.

We thank the RE/MAX Realty Team. Committing the money necessary to assume title sponsorship in these economic times is certainly worth noting - and worth remembering if and when any changes are made to what has become one of the Cape's signature events.

We also thank the Chamber of Commerce of Cape Coral, which has again volunteered to organize BOOM!

The primary mission of a chamber of commerce is the promotion of, and service to, its members. The organization of community events is not a chamber mandate but falls, instead, into community service.

With many of its small business members struggling, few would have found fault with the chamber had it, like so many organizations, opted to focus on its core mission. Instead, its board, its staff and its very many volunteers - most of them the very businesses that are struggling to stay afloat - have committed to another year of planning and follow through to make sure this popular event that draws some 20,000 annually to the Cape's downtown continues.

We again thank those who have agreed to spend the time and money to make Red, White & BOOM! possible next year. And we again urge other organizations to become involved so the event may continue in the longterm.
