Grace Baptist in Cape Coral is beginning a new program for children with special needs. The program, called Buddy Break, is a free monthly program designed to give parents and caregivers of kids with special needs a three-hour "break" from their ongoing care-giving responsibilities.
Grace Baptist has partnered with Nathaniel's Hope, a nationwide organization based in Orlando that was founded by Tim and Marie Kuck after they lost their special needs son, Nathaniel, when he was 4 years old. Their purpose is in "sharing the hope" with kids with special needs and their families. Nathaniel's Hope was started in 2002 at the Kuck's church in Orlando and has spread to churches in Florida and other states, including Tennessee, Maryland and Virginia.
Buddy Break is child-directed to meet the needs of each individual child. There are a variety of activities provided. Each child is partnered with a buddy, a trained and screened volunteer who is assigned to provide one-on-one attention throughout the session. The children bring their own lunch and are free to eat it whenever they want. A nurse is on site.
Buddy Break begins Saturday May 2!
