WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Officials in Palm Beach County have given the go-ahead to convert Burt Reynolds' former ranch into a 30-home development.

The actor sold the 153-acre Jupiter Farms site during bankruptcy proceedings in the 1990s, but it played host to scenes from "Smokey and the Bandit" and Reynolds' wedding to Loni Anderson.

Commissioners unanimously approved a plan Monday to double the number of homes previously agreed to be built on the site.

The Palm Beach Post ( ) reports that homes will be clustered on about 40 percent of the property, with the remainder kept as open space.
