TAMARAC, Fla. (AP) — A Georgia man has died after being hit by a truck while he was inspecting damage to his vehicle from a separate crash.

Two pickup trucks collided early Sunday in Tamarac. The Broward Sheriff's Office says John W. Jenkins of Villa Rica, Ga., got out of his truck to inspect the damage.

Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Dani Moschella says a third truck struck Jenkins as he stood in the road, looking at the crumpled front end of his truck. Jenkins was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Authorities say the truck involved in the initial crash with Jenkins fled the scene. The vehicle was later found in Pompano Beach. Investigators are looking for the driver.

The driver of the truck that hit Jenkins stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
