ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — The widow of a slain central Florida sheriff's deputy wore his badge around her neck at his funeral.
Thousands came to Orlando on Saturday to mourn Orange County Sheriff's Deputy Jonathan Pine, who was fatally shot last week while responding to a car burglary call. Gov. Rick Scott and Attorney General Pam Bondi were among the mourners.
Bagpipers saluted Pine's family at the service at First Baptist Church of Orlando. Pine's friends and family are planning another memorial service in Louisiana this week.
Pine was remembered as a husband and father who pledged to make it home every morning. He was buried at a cemetery in Gotha.
Sheriff Jerry Demings presented Bridget Pine with posthumous awards honoring Pine's "act of bravery in trying to arrest a fleeing felon."
