CARY, N.C. (AP) — Authorities say a New Hampshire man wanted in a shooting death in North Carolina has killed himself.

Investigators say 43-year-old Eric Paul Engel of Durham, N.H., was wanted in the slaying Friday of 74-year-old Aleksander Wysocki of Cary.

Cary police and Florida authorities say they tracked Engel to Dunnellon, Fla., where he shot himself during a standoff with police at a motel.

Officials with the sheriff's office in Marion County, Fla., say they surrounded a room and encouraged Engel to come out peacefully, but he stayed inside. They say he committed suicide a short time later.

Authorities responded to a 911 about gunshots and found the wounded Wysocki in his side yard Friday morning.

Engel was a lecturer in the communication department at the University of New Hampshire.
