SECURITY FIRM SETTLES WITH ZIMMERMAN, LAWYER
The firm hired to provide security for George Zimmerman and his family while he awaited trial for the shooting death of Trayvon Martin has reached a settlement with the former neighborhood watch volunteer and his attorney. CMR Associates settled a lawsuit against Zimmerman, his wife Shellie and attorney Mark O'Mara last week. The private investigation firm claimed it was owed $27,000, plus interest for past-due invoices.
RESEARCHERS PLAN FOR ICE AGE DIG
Officials are signing an agreement Monday that will allow an archaeological dig to move forward in Vero Beach. It will allow researchers from Mercyhurst University in Pennsylvania to excavate a site where Ice Age fossils of animals were discovered almost 100 years ago.
IDAHO AQUARIUM CHIEF GETS PRISON IN FLORIDA CASE
The president of an Idaho aquarium convicted in the illegal shipping of protected sharks and rays from Florida has been sentenced to a year and a day in prison. A federal judge in Key West on Monday imposed the sentence on 40-year-old Ammon Covino, president of Idaho Aquarium in Boise and co-founder of Portland Aquarium in Oregon. Covino is also barred during two years of probation from working in a wildlife exhibit.
2 MEN SWIM TO SHORE AFTER BOAT SINKS
Investigators say one man died after swimming to shore with his friend when the boat capsized on Sunday afternoon in the Gulf off Pinellas County. The other man was treated and released from the hospital.
PANHANDLE MAN DIES IN HUNTING ACCIDENT
A Florida Panhandle man is dead after another hunter shot him on Saturday afternoon near Pensacola. The state's wildlife agency investigators say the shooting appears accidental. Both men were leaving stands around dusk on Saturday when one saw movement in the woods and fired. He struck 30-year-old Christopher Garrett.
