Tampa Police Chief given prosthetic fingertip

November 5, 2013
Associated Press

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor has been fitted for a prosthetic fingertip, replacing the tip she lost when she jammed her finger between a chain on her boat and a flywheel.

The Tampa Tribune (http://bit.ly/1b0Cc31) reports that Castor received the new fingertip on Monday.

The severed portion of her right index finger plopped into the water and was lost after the June boating accident.

She said the fake fingertip mostly is cosmetic.

The prosthetic will be held on with suction and be removed and washed each night. It should last about a year, after which it will be replaced.

Castor says she has learned to fire her service weapon with her middle finger.
