WEST PARK, Fla. (AP) — A teenage girl was shot in the neck while waiting for a school bus in South Florida.

The Miami Herald ( ) reports the shooting happened shortly after 6:30 a.m. Friday in West Park, a suburb in Broward County.

Deputies say the teen was grazed by a bullet and suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The girl called her father who rushed to the stop and picked her up in a pickup truck. Authorities say that briefly led to some confusion as police were initially told to look out for a similar vehicle. There was a police chase and stop on Interstate 95 a short time later, but the incidents were not related.

The streets near Watkins Elementary were shut down. The school was not yet in session and never put on lockdown.
