SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) — A 50-year-old Sarasota man is accused of stealing money from his mother to fund his drug addiction.

The Sarasota Herald-Tribune ( ) reports Michael Dion was arrested Wednesday on a charge of exploitation of the elderly.

Deputies say he took his 72-year-old mother to the bank on Oct. 17 to withdraw almost $13,000. According to an arrest report, the mother seemed confused, but advised the teller to do what her son asked. The bank staff also noted that a certificate of deposit belonging to the woman had been withdrawn on Sept. 5 and deposited into her account.

A review of her account showed that $600 per day had been withdrawn since Aug. 15, totaling $22,800.

Dion told deputies he has a $600 a day drug habit.

He remains in jail.
