MIAMI (AP) — A police officer is recovering from stab wounds and a suspect is dead following a confrontation near Miami International Airport.

Miami-Dade police responded to a shooting call around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and found the wounded officer. The dead suspect was nearby. It wasn't clear how the officer was stabbed or what kind of weapon was used.

The Miami Herald ( ) reports the officer — whose name has not been released — made contact with the man at a Shell gas station near the airport.
