Jet maker plans to expand operations in Florida

MELBOURNE, Fla. (AP) — A Brazilian jet maker is planning to expand its operations in central Florida and add 600 jobs.

Embraer S.A. officials along with Gov. Rick Scott announced Tuesday that the company could soon start manufacturing Legacy 450 and Legacy 500 jets at Melbourne International Airport.

The final deal is contingent on approval of an agreement between company officials and state and local government.

The Scott administration in a press release said the expansion would "ultimately" lead to 600 jobs but did not specify how long it would take for the jobs to materialize.

Embraer already has a customer center and two assembly plants in Melbourne. The company is expected to spend $28 million on equipment for the expansion.
