FLA. LEGISLATOR WANTS TO ALLOW WARNING SHOTS
A Florida state legislator has filed a bill to exempt anyone who fires a warning shot in self-defense from the state's minimum-mandatory-sentencing laws. Rep. Neil Combee filed the bill Thursday in response to the conviction of a woman who was sentenced to 20 years in prison after firing a gun near her estranged husband during an argument.
DEPUTIES: MAN POSED AS TEEN ONLINE AND HAD SEX WITH MINOR
Deputies in southwest Florida have arrested a 27-year-old man after he allegedly pretended to be a teen online and traveled to Sarasota to have sex with a minor. According to detectives, Andrew Michael Brandt met a 15-year-old girl on Tagged.com and told her he was 17. In March, he allegedly drove to Sarasota and began a sexual relationship with her.
ATTORNEY GENERAL ANNOUNCES ANTI-HUMAN TRAFFICKING EFFORT
The state of Florida will place billboards along streets, in malls and on bus shelters to raise awareness of human trafficking. During a news conference Friday, Attorney General Pam Bondi announced a statewide program aimed at helping parents spot sexual exploitation of children online.
FAMILY OF MAN RUN OVER BY COPS DOUBTS AUTOPSY
The family of a DeLand man who died after being run over by a police officer during a chase is questioning the accuracy of an autopsy. They asked the Florida Department of Law Enforcement on Friday to conduct an independent review of Marlon Brown's autopsy.
4 INJURED IN JACKSONVILLE NIGHTCLUB SHOOTING
Four people are recovering following an early-morning shooting at Plush nightclub in Jacksonville. Authorities found three people shot inside the club and say a fourth drove to the hospital.
