MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (AP) — Law enforcement officers and their canine partners from across South Florida gathered to say goodbye to Max, a police dog who died in the line of duty.
The Miami Herald (http://hrld.us/18qC4bR ) reports Max died of injuries sustained on Sept. 12 while responding to a burglary call in Miami Gardens. A memorial service was held Wednesday.
A glass panel fell on Max during a search for burglary suspect. He required emergency surgery.
Max joined the department in 2009 when he was 13 months old. Officials say he apprehended multiple suspects, including a man who sent a police officer to the hospital following a fight.
He was certified in apprehension and explosives detection. He participated in such high profile security sweeps as two presidential visits, a Super Bowl and a Heat championship.
