NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. (AP) — Bill Gunter — a pastor at a New Port Richey church — has won the Republican nomination in the special primary for a Tampa Bay area Florida House seat.
According to unofficial results, Gunter took nearly 63 percent of the vote in Tuesday's race. James Mathieu followed with 20 percent, while Jeromy Harding came in last with 17 percent.
Gunter will face Democrat Amanda Murphy on October 15. Murphy ran unopposed for her party's nomination.
A special election for House District 36 was required after Gov. Rick Scott appointed Mike Fasano to be Pasco County Tax Collector last month.
