JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Stein Mart Inc. said Thursday that August revenue at stores open at least a year rose 3.8 percent, driven by strong sales of linens, gifts and dresses.
Weaker categories were women's sportswear and special sizes and men's sportswear and jewelry.
The strongest regions during the four-week period ended Aug 31 were Florida and the Southeast, while the Midwest and California fared worse.
Total revenue for the month rose nearly 3.7 percent to $83.3 million.
Year-to-date, revenue in stores open at least one year rose 3.6 percent while total revenue rose nearly 3.8 percent to $695.6.
The company operated 260 stores at the end of August compared to 263 stores last year.
Its shares rose 29 cents, or 2.4 percent, to $12.50 in morning trading Thursday.
