October 18, 2013

To the editor: On Nov. 5, your voice is needed. Your vote will decide whether we primarily TAX … or GROW … our way back to prosperity in Cape Coral....

Since you already have the mentality ingrained by a certain group that employees and/or unions have caused all of what you deem to be the collapse of our government, my vote will not go your way. I wanted someone new with new innovative ways to bring our City together, not someone to join the divisive group. Better luck next time.

Mr Williams, isn't it comical you didn't think council needed "more balance" during the tenure of your idolized Fab 5? Where was your voice then?

You state the need for more revenue, but do not support either measure brought forward. Are you hanging your hat on the Property Appraiser? As the digest continues to improve, there will be calls to lower the millage rate. How will you respond? So far you have offered nothing.

Maybe the problem has been that to many retired people on the Council. We are no longer a retirement community and we need working people, younger perspectives, and one-parent households. I will e voting for McGrail because he is a working council member and for the past 4 years he has represented the district he lives in. He wanted much ore but understood the need to compromise in the best interest of the city.

Sir in your district 6 alone there are many many home owners and renters alike who want a change in your district.

I am not from that district myself but know that the roads are the #1 issue.

What those people want to know is why the $6.5 million dollars that was put into roads by the so called FAB 5 council and then city manager (fired for no cause) Gary King was put into his last budget. The roads were repaved we saw the presentation at a council meeting after he was terminated. Approximately 110 miles for that $6.5 million again put in play well into the budget year. Gary King told the council then to keep the momentum going the $6.5 million needed to be put in each and every year. They want to know why did the new city manager not put the money in the `st budget he put together and why did the council especially the district 6 councilor Kevin McGrail not take issue? Too busy buying over $13 million in parcels of land? Too busywith a utility and fire assessment?

Too busy with a Fire assessment tax fashined after communities some with less than 10,000 resident?

There will be change in the district 6 councilman not doubt about it.

Why? Because those residents know the roads will be repaved with him or WITHOUT HIM!

I am all for growth with no new taxes. Unfortunately, I have not heard anyone present a viable plan to date on how to generate new revenue. During the last election, that was also the sound byte of the 'no new taxes' candidates. They didn't present any plans then, they haven't brought forward any plans in the past four years, and they haven't presented any plans now. PLEASE, tell me how we are going to fund the growth and infrastructure NOW to bring in the businesses that will reduce our dependency on taxes in the future. If you can give me some solid plans, I WILL vote for 'no new taxes'.

You see Rick, while you were fighting against more than a mile of free water lines in that district Kevin was working to get the roads paved. While you were worried about low income people fishing from "your bridges" Kevin was working to solve the problems with the new trash hauler for the entire city. Now you see why you don't deserve the job.

"City employees and unions support a generous tax and spend philosophy and represent a large, special interest voting bloc. What we need is more balance" Mr. Williams, you must have had different thoughts when you interviewed with the Fire Fighters Union prior to the Primary. The letter stated "If you wish to be considered for endorsement by Local 2424, please return this questionnaire", which you did.

DSHard: I wholeheartedly agree. This City should cut Council to 5 and pay a decent living wage with benefits to attract business minded people, who will make decisions based on whats best for the whole City, not just those who got bored during retirement or*****at golf.

Sorry, but I think you "cooked your goose" when you aligned yourself, intentionally or not, with Sullivan and Leetz. I would have given you a shot, but then I saw the four signs on Pine Island Road. Fool me once . . .

Now that I have watched the recent debates it has become crystal clear that we are picking between the lesser of two evils in every single race. I am not for raising taxes but would like to see good quality candidates to choose from. If someone better suited for the job than Sullivan was running I would vote for that person but this Marni lady came across horrible and there is no way I am voting for her. Leon looked like a total*****so no way on him. I can’t stand McGrail but I was also disappointed in Williams but I guess I will still pick Williams. Burch will win his race just due to name recognition. In the end nothing will change, the tax and spend people will still have the majority.

Litwich, King was a miserable, nasty, overbearing, bully who even MAYOR did not want! He gag-ordered employees, threatened them with job loss, & forced out every dept. head we had! Thus no ‘corporate memory’ He threatened/terrified 2 citizens so that one never comes to council & the other only rarely! King had nothing to do with improving anything in N.Cape! It was, in fact, McGrail who pushed and worked for roads in N.Cape. King WAS fired for cause but council decided to give him the boot without litigation. The voters in NCape have many needs: paved roads, street lights (we (NCape) pay over $750,000 annually for the street lights that are located in SOUTH Cape & we don’t have any! We have no amenitites at all, but the thing we need MOST? WATER. We have no water and no fire-hydrants and RAGs, King, and their puppets only want to prevent the fees that would come from their speculation land purchases! RAG goal: bankrupt the city to get out of owing fees!

Will-I-ams. You want more balance? What you mean is that you want council to swing back to the 5-3 RAG advantage that ran for 4 years and began to ruin this city. You and your RAG pals are from Detroit, Chicago, NY, Providence, California. All places with union problems. But where the RAGs come from crime and corruption are standard. The rest of the country is doing fine. WE are none of those places! We are Cape Coral. Our union employees are long-term citizens with homes and families to support—they have been here for decades. Their roots are here as is their loyalty. Williams, your LTE again displays your lack of knowledge and understanding about CC in general and NCape in particular. You have not once made a statement at political forums that wasn’t easily disputed by even an uninterested citizen! You are a puppet for RAGs. YOU chose that. Remember what your Mom said: “If you lay down with dogs you get up with fleas”. “You are known by the company you keep.” Rick----YOU ARE A RAG!

CapeCoralCuestions I have no control of the spending that has been carelessly and negligently done in this city!

How ever we all know who racked up the 1 billion dollars and debt. We all know what over $33 million in debt service is doing to the tax rate here.

We all know equipment was allowed to be unrepaired in a fleet maintenance department that could not even have it overpaid assistant managers schedule or see the repairs were carried out. We all know how $25 million dollars of bio-solid equipment was purchased to sit rusting on undeveloped lots of land north of Pine Island Rd. We all know that same equipment could not even be solid at 10 cents on the dollar on the internet of Gov**** surplus equipment. We all know certain overtime took 3 years to reduce it bu 80%. I could write an encyclopedia of mismanaged money and questionable practices, ie. the 9 pages of 22 items to a former city manager (not Gary King) who refuted what the State of Florida Auditor General reported.

Mr. Williams, you don't have a clue on what to do to move this City forward, do you? However, you do remind me of a group that were sent packing just 2 short years ago...are you one of them? Can't imagine going back to that time where empolyees were ridiculed, threatened and made out to be thieves. No, Mr. Williams, I don't think you will get our families votes.

I like this comment from Williams' letter - "As the people's representative for Cape Coral City Council District 6, I will be beholden only to you, the residents, businesses and taxpayers of Cape Coral." Riddle me this. If what you claim, as quoted above, is true, then why did you allow your name to be in the "Sullivan-Leetz-Headd" mix of signs on Pine Island (see Lolita's comment)?
