To the editor: The position shift on gun control by the Republican Party in the late 1970s has made legislation on that subject all but impossible today....

It is appalling the conservatives who don't blame the person who pulls the trigger, the availability of firearms and ammunition, or the gun laws. It's as if there's nothing that anyone can do...except buy more firearms, and that's going to make us safer.
