Golf and Baseball
July 28, 2009 - Steve Anderson
For all you golfers out there that are also baseball fans, I've got a really fun event coming up to tell you about.
All spring I was my 9 year old son's little league baseball coach. One day at our sunday afternoon practice I brought some of my golf clubs out to the field and hit some fly balls with golf balls out to the kids so they could catch them. The kids loved it and most of them had never seen a golf ball hit before. One of them then asked me if I could hit a ball from home plate over the homerun fence. I laughed to myself as the fence in little league is only 200 feet away. This is just a 69 yard lob wedge shot for golfers. I had my 5-iron which I hit about 200 yards and cranked one not only over the fence but out of the park and into an empty grass field. A golf ball sure goes a lot farther than a baseball that's for sure.
The next week a bunch of us attended a Ft. Myers Miracle game (the minor league team of the Minn. Twins) at Hammond stadium. My son Parker kept saying, "dad, wouldn't it be neat if you could hit golf balls in here."
Well, I contacted the MIracle marketing department to tell them idea and, to make a long story short, guess who' going to be hitting golf balls in front of 5,000 people at the Miracle game on thursday, august 6th?
I'm going to hit to targets out in the outfield, hit some over the fence, hit some plastic balls up into the crowd and do a lot of things with the little ones. It should be a blast and I invite you all out for the show and game.
I'm on at 6:30 for about 20 minutes and the game starts at 7:15. The Miracle folks are giving the golfers a great deal too for that night. YOur ticket, a hat, hotdog and drink are only $10.00.
Come on out to see that golf ball sail out of the park, it'll be a lot of fun!
