Welcome to "Family Matters"!

June 1, 2009 - Dennis Gingerich
I’m excited to have the opportunity to blog about family matters. Having lived in this community for over 23 years now, I’m quite aware families face many challenges. I’m looking forward to this blog as a place for networking our resources together to help families become stronger. Whether the topic is related to marriage, parenting, finances or other family issues, I hope this new “Family Matters” blog is a connecting point for conversation. I dream of this blog as a resource that you can refer your friends to for help in improving the health of their family and a medium where you can share insights that will assist others in strengthening their families.

I like the blog title, “Family Matters,” because I believe that strong families are an integral part of a strong community. And, I like this specific title for the reason that it can be used as both a noun and a verb. When we use the title as a noun, we are saying that the topic of family is of interest or concern to our community. When we use the title as a verb, we are saying that family is of significance or importance to us. To me, both are true.

I hope you’ll take a moment to get acquainted with me by reading my bio. I have loved being a part of this community since 1986. I’ve raised my family in Cape Coral. For over two decades now, I’ve interacted with thousands of families in many environments in our community – as a pastor, soccer coach, parent’s advisory committee member at school, police chaplain, neighbor and friend.

And now, I look forward to learning to know you and to hearing from you. What are the topics you would like to see addressed and discussed? I definitely have some things in mind for the next weeks but I know the nature of a good blog is that it responds to the readers who are active participants. So, I’m waiting to hear your suggestions. Bring ‘em on!
