Florida statute encourages the use of native plants and Florida-friendly landscaping because these practices require less water and fertilizer. Homeowners who live in community associations would like to protect the environment but community association rules mandate lawns and plants that require watering and fertilizer to survive. Do association rules mandating lush lawns trump the statute that encourages environmental protection or is protecting the environment more important than community association rules?
