Annual PGA Show Always a Hit
February 3, 2011 - Steve Anderson
Last week I attended the annual PGA Merchandising show in Orlando. The PGA show is the largest trade show in the world with some 20,000 golf companies displaying their products. Everything from golf tees to apparel, clubs and golf carts are on display for PGA Pros to order and some 10-15,000 PGA professionals go to place their orders for next season, pick up some continuing educations points or just catch up with old friends. They say is you walked every aisle up and down just once that you'd cover about 6-7 miles so it's quite a spectacle to be sure. The show is not open to the public but professionals can bring guests and family members.
My main reason for attending was to pick up some education credits gained through attending seminars and the PGA presents some of the world's best in fields ranging from resume writing, retirement planning and staff relations to club fitting and teaching seminars. Much like a doctor needs to be updated on the latest procedures, PGA need to be shown the latest and greates trends in the game of golf. With cyberspace being such a dominant factor today we were shown how a club can gain new members or increase rounds of golf by using Twitter, Facebook, etc. and the internet to our fullest degree.
I got to meet the CEO of the PGA of America and he had actually read some of my golf tips I have written for 'The Breeze' and other media and was so supportive of my efforts to get the PGA name out there in the media. It was a lot of fun being recognized by someone like this that for sure.
On a side note, one of my best friends in the business and the person responsible for bringing me to River Hall C.C. 3 years ago, Doug Fisher, has just become the Director of Golf at your own Palmetto Pines C.C. in the Cape. Doug is one of the best and brightest managers and PGA Pro's I've ever had the pleasure of knowing and I know he'll do an outstanding job over there. Stop in and say hi to him.
See you next time.
